What we do

About

Prof Ndamulelo Mabidi

Founder and Director, NIM Editorial

NIM Editorial was founded in 2016 and has grown from a one-person editing practice into a trusted supplier to universities, regulators, and corporates.

Prof Mabidi brings two perspectives that most editorial suppliers do not. She spent ten years in corporate and industry communication before moving into academia, where she is now an Associate Professor of Communication Science. She knows what an examiner looks for, and she knows what a board, a regulator, or a communications executive needs from a document.

  • PhD in Communication Science, University of South Africa
  • MA in Corporate Communication, University of Johannesburg
  • BA Honours in Communication, North-West University
  • BA in Motion Picture Medium, AFDA

Frequently asked questions

How long does the editing process take?
From a few days to several weeks or months, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. We agree a timeline with you that covers each stage of the process and works back from your deadline.
What does the editing process include?
We read and review your document for grammar, spelling, punctuation, font and style, consistency, and alignment with your style guidelines. We suggest alternative words and phrases, give guidance on sentence structure and the organisation of ideas, point out areas that need attention, and track every change so that you can review and accept it. Where meaning is unclear, we ask in the margin rather than guess.
What does the editing process not include?
We hold ourselves to high ethical standards. Editing does not include writing content or changing content beyond correcting mechanical errors; that is writing, which we offer separately as copywriting and content development. We also do not assess the validity of sources, or check for or accept responsibility for plagiarism. We work to make our editing and formatting precise and thorough, but the final content, and its outcome, remain the author's responsibility.
What writing styles do you follow?
It depends on your needs and on the medium or channel. We discuss the style with you and personalise our service. South African and UK English are our default.
Which languages do you translate?
We offer translation and transcription in all eleven spoken official languages of South Africa: Afrikaans, English, isiNdebele, isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, siSwati, Tshivenda, and Xitsonga.
What is the typical cost for writing, editing, or translation?
It depends on the length of the document and the level of editing, proofreading, translation, or writing required. You pay only for the services you request, on one consolidated quotation with no hidden fees. Request a quote.
Are other services available through NIM Editorial?
Yes. We also offer copywriting, content development, research, layout, design, and print management, as well as specialised on-site training, mentoring, and one-on-one training sessions.
